Associativity: Update Mode
Associated or Dependent files are those where changes in one file (the parent file or server) leads to changes in another file (the child file or client).
Disassociated files are those where this link is suspended and, therefore, changes in the server part do not affect the client part. In this case, the client feature appears in the Feature Tree with the disassociated icon .
Associated files can exist in all applications:
-
Part - When you manually associate an imported part.
-
Drafting - When you create a view from a part file. See Updating Drafting Sheets for a list of characteristics that apply to Drafting only.
-
NC - When you load a part as the NC model.
-
Assembly - When you add a part file as an assembly component.
In all of these cases, whenever you make a change to the parent file (server), all child files (clients) will need to be updated in order to receive the changes. There are two modes of updating: SemiAutomatic and Manual.
The Update Mode is set in Tools > Preferences > General > Update Mode.
SemiAutomatic Update Mode
In this mode, any changes to the parent file are automatically reflected in the child files. You can see the updates in the following cases:
Manual Update Mode
In this mode, changes to the parent file do not cause an automatic update to the child files. When you open the child file or activate a window of the child file, the title bar will include the text Not Updated.
To update the child file, click the button or select Edit > Main Tools > Update from the menu bar.
