Light Settings: Advanced Properties

Access: Open this function from the following location:

  • Select View > Settings > Light Settings from the menu bar.
    When the
Lighting & Textures dialog is displayed, choose the Lighting tab in the dialog.

The Advanced option is displayed in the Lighting & Textures dialog, under the Lighting tab. The Advanced Properties material attributes define how a model reflects light. The Advanced Properties dialog is displayed.

Use the sliders or enter an integer value to define the relevant settings:

Ambient

This light consists of uniform, nondirectional light of any color that illuminates all parts of the model equally, without regard to direction, location of surfaces, or shading. Since all portions of the model receive some illumination, the depth of the shadows is reduced. Ambient light is attributable to the reflection of light from surfaces in the environment.

Diffusion

Light reflected from a diffuse surface is scattered equally in all directions, resulting in a dull reflection.

Specularity

Highlights reflected from the surface result in a shiny reflection. Glossiness and shininess are attributes controlled by specularity.

Shininess

The amount of surface reflection alternating between glossy and dull.

Emission

The amount of light projected from the surface.
