Disconnected Symbols

Disconnected Symbols are symbols that lose their source entities. For example, as shown below, a linear dimension loses its source entity (the center point of a circle) and is regarded as a Disconnected Symbol.

Disconnected symbols are put into the Disconnected Symbols set and are displayed differently from other symbols. The default display style for disconnected symbols is set in the Preferences. While in the Disconnected Symbols set, you can then hide/show this set as required.

When a disconnected symbol is reconnected with its source part or to another part, it is removed from the Disconnected Symbols set and is displayed normally.

Disconnected Symbol Example

A linear dimension symbol is connected to the center point of a circle.

If the circle is deleted, the symbol whose source entity is deleted is now disconnected from the source entity, grayed out and is put into the Disconnected Symbols set, as shown below. As with all sets, this set can be hidden, if required.

Reconnected Symbol Example

A disconnected symbol can be reconnected with its source part or to another part.

Double-click the disconnected symbol; the missing point is highlighted in red.

Either pick the source part again or pick another entity to which the symbol is to be reconnected. In this case, another center point is picked.

The symbol reconnects with the new reference and is removed from the Disconnected Symbols set. In addition, a text box is displayed enabling you to edit the reference.

In this case, another value is entered.

The reference entity and symbol are updated.
