NC Preferences > Drill > Group Naming

Access: Invoke this function from one of the following locations:

Navigate to NC > Drill > Group Naming.

Define the default naming convention for groups in the Automated Drill procedure. The names assigned to groups of holes can either be user or system-defined.

Groups of holes in the Automated Drill procedure are automatically named based on the geometry of the holes and their manufacturing attributes.

A group name may contain the following elements:

Prefix, separator, Diameter sign, Diameter, separator, Attribute, separator, Blind/Through, separator, Sequential.

Some of these elements may be empty. The separator only separates between non-empty components.

Group Naming Method:
System-Defined

Group Naming Method:
User-Defined
This is the default option.

User-defined example group name elements

If more than one attribute exists, the name is defined using the following priority:

Thread – the thread name is used. For example "M12", "3/8 -24 UNF".

Manufacturing Technique (use the string).

Coded (the value is used: H6, etc.).

Diameter tolerance, other than "coded" (the text defined in the Preference is used).

Exact Position (the text defined in the Preference is used).

Depth Tolerance (the text defined in the Preference is used).

The Group Naming dialog is displayed.

Interaction

Define the default group naming convention.

Group Naming Method

Set the naming method from the following dropdown list - see the examples below of the results of the different options:

User-Defined

This options enables you to define the group naming convention.
This is the default option.

Standard

The group naming is system-defined. In this case, all other fields in the dialog are hidden.

Group Naming Method =  Standard

Group Naming Method = User-Defined

Prefix for group with Single

The prefix depends if the number of straight segments in a hole is one (single) or more (multi).

Set the prefix for a group of a single segment, with or without an attribute.

With Attribute

The attribute is used as the prefix.

Without Attribute

Prefix for a group of a single segment without an attribute.

Default = Drill.

Prefix for group with Multi

The prefix depends if the number of straight segments in a hole is one (single) or more (multi).

Set the prefix for a group of multiple segments, with or without attributes.

With Attribute

Prefix for a group of multiple segments with attributes.

Default = Multi.

Without Attribute

Prefix for a group of multiple segments without attributes.

Default = Multi.

Diameter sign

Set the default diameter sign.

Default =D.

Diameter Tolerance sign

Set the default diameter tolerance sign.

Default = D-Tol.

Depth Tolerance sign

Set the default depth tolerance sign.

Default = H-Tol.

Exact Position sign

Set the default exact position sign.

Default = Ex.

Through Hole Sign

Set the default through hole sign.

Blind Hole Sign

Set the default blind hole sign.

Sequential

Set the sequential hole naming from the following dropdown list:

A,B,C

Alphabetic naming.
This is the default option.

1,2,3

Numerical naming.

Diameter comes from

Set from which element the hole diameter is defined, from the following dropdown list:

Longest Segment

The hole diameter is defined by the longest segment.
This is the default option.

Widest Segment

The hole diameter is defined by the widest segment.

Mid Height segment

The hole diameter is defined by the mid. height segment.

Separator

Set the default separator sign.

Default = _.

Undefined Groups Name

This is a global name for groups that cannot be defined for any reason, for example: by points, by pocket, no straight segment, etc.

Default: Group.
