An Entitlement contains all the information about which features were purchased and the validity period. This entitlement is represented by an Entitlement ID (EID).
A Device is either a dongle supplied by Cimatron, or a computer.
Cimatron Software is the CAD CAM package written and licensed by Cimatron. It contains several features for specialist applications, such as NC, Mold Design, and Die Design, each of which may be separately licensed.
The Licence assigns the features detailed by the Entitlement to a device. Licenses may be locked to a specific device (such as a dongle or individual Cimatron PC), or may be activated on a Cimatron License Server and available for use within a network (floating). A license enables one user to access specific features in the Cimatron software, such as NC or Mold Design.
The License Manager runs on the local machine as part of the Cimatron installation and is used to activate the Entitlement ID on that machine. A License Manager is installed with a copy of the Cimatron software, a copy of Cimatron License Server, and Superbox.
A Cimatron PC is a computer that has Cimatron version 2026 (or Cimatron version 2026 License Server) installed on it.
A dongle is a USB device provided by Cimatron and contains details of your entitlement. After activation, it can be plugged into any Cimatron PC to access the software features provided by the license.
A License Server is an additional piece of software used by organizations with multiple Cimatron licenses to enable these licenses to be pooled and shared across a network of Cimatron PCs. License Server is a separate software that can be installed alongside the Cimatron software or on a separate PC in the network. The License Server manages distribution of the available licenses, on request, to any connected Cimatron PC in the network, until all licenses are allocated.
Note: Cimatron 2026 License Server cannot be installed on the same machine as an existing copy of Cimatron 2025 (or prior) License Server is installed. You must first uninstall the earlier version of License Server.
License Borrowing is a facility provided by the License Server. A license can be borrowed temporarily from the License Server and used offline until the borrowing period elapses and the license is returned to the server.
There are two main types of license:
Floating licenses are locked to a single device (machine or dongle), but can be used alternately on different Cimatron machines. Floating licenses reside on a Cimatron License Server.
Local licenses are locked to a single device (machine or dongle) and can be used only on the machine, or where the dongle is connected.
After installation on a PC, the Cimatron software can remain inactive until it is required. You can have a copy of Cimatron installed on several PCs, ready to be used only when required.
For example:
If you have a dongle, plug it in to a PC with Cimatron installed, and select the Entitlement ID to activate a license. You can transfer the dongle between Cimatron PCs and activate the license again to then use Cimatron on that machine.
If you have an Entitlement ID, you will be able to activate Cimatron online on a Cimatron PC.
If you connect to a Cimatron License Server, you will be able to use the features associated with any available license that has been activated at the server.
