Machine Between Layers: Vertical Step Type

The vertical distance between cutting layers. The following options are available:

Fixed

Define Fixed Layers to be machined by setting a fixed vertical distance between cutting layers.

The following parameterfollowing parameter is displayed:

Max. Vertical Step

Define the maximum vertical step value.

The range of values is:

The Max. Vertical Step is determined by the minimum number of intermediate layers that need to inserted between each two major layers (or a major layer and a horizontal plane [as a horizontal plane will be now treated as a between layer]).

Variable

The system optimizes the vertical step between cutting layers, using the Max. 2D Distance as a guideline, limited by the maximum and minimum vertical step values.

The following parametersfollowing parameters are displayed:

Max. 2D Distance

The remaining stock cannot be greater than this value.

This parameter determines if intermediate layers are needed, how many, and in what Z values.

The system finds the maximum down step that fulfills the condition that the remaining stock is not greater than the Max. 2D Distance. In other words, it will try to spread the between layers in such a way that from top view, the between layers contours will be not further than the Max. 2D Distance.

Max. Vertical Step

Define the maximum vertical step value.

The range of values is:

Near vertical walls, the Z distance between layers will not be bigger than the Max. Vertical Step.

If the Between Layers Strategy = Rough and there are completely vertical walls, the vertical step can be larger than the maximum vertical step (Max. Vertical Step is overridden).

Min. Vertical Step

Define the minimum vertical step value.

The range of values is:

  • The Min. Vertical Step < Max. Vertical Step.

Near horizontal areas, the Z distance will not be smaller than the Min. Vertical Step.
