JPG or JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a common file format for exchanging raster graphics (bitmap) images between application programs. The file extension for a JPEG file is either .jpeg or .jpg. The JPG format was developed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. While JPG images can contain colorful, high-resolution image data, it is a lossy format, which means some quality is lost when the image is compressed.
