What is PDF?What is PDF?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format created by Adobe® Systems in 1993 for document exchange. PDF is used for representing documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system. This format provides a page-by-page view of documents exactly as they appear in their printed form, as well as allowing keyword search capability. However, in a departure from their use as "online versions of printed documents," 3D models can now be embedded (and manipulated, e.g., rotated) in PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat® using various data formats.

Adobe Reader® is required to view PDF files and can be downloaded from Adobe's website.

Notes:

  • Only 2D PDF files can be imported to a Cimatron file. Cimatron does not currently support the import of 3D PDF files.

  • Cimatron Drafting files can be exported to 3D PDF and PRC files can be created.
