Simulation Options : Model Tab

Access: Invoke the Machine or Material Removal Simulator and select Simulation Options from the Simulator Guide.

Control all the parameters and behavior of the simulation mechanism.

The Model tab enables you to define a box of interest, delete stock objects and set tolerances.

This tab contains the following parameters:

Box of Interest: The Box of Interest allows you to specify a box smaller than the whole model, which enables you to investigate specific areas. See Box of Interest below, for additional information.

Delete Stock Objects: Select and delete stock objects.

Tolerances: Set the following tolerance parameters, as required.

Threshold Tolerance

Set the detection threshold tolerance value. This value is based on the Tolerance setting (Tolerance x 1.6) in the Machining Simulation dialog.

Stock Tolerance Method

Set the stock tolerance method from the following dropdown list of options:

  • As Part

  • Automatic

  • Manual: Set the tolerance manually. In this case an addition parameter (Stock Tolerance) is displayed. By default, this value is initially the same as the Tolerance setting in the Machining Simulation dialog.

Max. Stock Removal Feed (%)

Set the maximum stock removal feed rate, as a percentage of the procedure's feed rate. If the stock removal feed rate exceeds this value, an error is registered.
Default = 200.

Box of Interest

The Box of Interest allows you to specify a box smaller than the whole model, which enables you to investigate specific areas. Defining a box of interest means that:

Only stock inside this box will be considered.

Only problems that are related to this box will be reported.

Selecting a smaller box shortens simulation time.

Whole Model:

View:

User-Defined:
1st and 2nd XYZ fields available.

When switching from the Whole Model to a different box of interest mode, a 'snapshot' of the simulator state is saved. This snapshot contains the information of the current simulation position, the remaining stock, the problems found so far and the values of all the simulator parameters (tolerance, threshold, etc.). When switching back to the Whole Model mode, all the information saved in the snapshot is reinstated (the cutter position and graphic window view information (Zoom factor, etc.) are not saved in the snapshot and are, therefore, not changed).

Whole Model

Set the whole model as a box of interest. In this case the whole model is displayed and the other parameters in this section are grayed out.

View

Define the box location and dimensions automatically according to what is currently displayed in the graphics window. In this case the other parameters in this section are grayed out.

User-Defined

Set a specific area of the model as a box of interest. The First and Second corner XYZ fields become active and enable you to define a specific area, either by entering the coordinates directly into the fields or by clicking the respective black arrows and picking the required points on the stock. When you click the arrows, the respective XYZ fields are highlighted in yellow.

When a user-defined box of interest is defined, only the stock area within the box of interest is displayed. See the example below.

When the User-Defined option is selected, the XYZ fields below became active. For each corner of the box of interest, click the appropriate black arrow and pick the required stock point, as seen in the image below.

Click Apply  and see that the stock has changed and reduced to the volume defined by your two selected points. This is the Box of Interest functionality which can help you to better investigate specific areas.
