Dimensions

Diameter symbol for holes in side view Picture 51

Linear dimensions in Cimatron 2026 will run an analysis on parallel lines, and if they fit the definition of a hole, shaft, or cylinder in side view, the Diameter symbol will be automatically applied. This is a time saver, as having the diameter symbol is the accepted standard behavior for these types of features.

  • Regular views, hidden lines, section views, and other view types all support this new ability.

Holes and other round features in side view are recognized as needing a diameter symbol.

Symbols

Addition of special drafting symbols Picture 53

Support for special symbols in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing has been enhanced. Some of these symbols are found in the tolerancing function. Others can be added as symbols using the text editor in notes and dimensions, or the Symbol List tool (use the Elite Symbol font to see all items). Newly added symbols include:

Independency. (ISO standard use only)

Envelope requirement (ANSI standard use only)

This diameter dimension applies to each cylinder; hence the Continuous Feature symbol is called for.

Drafting Templates

Template structure is shown Picture 52

One of the fastest ways to create a drawing is by using Export to Drafting. After choosing a template, you get a dialog that lets you load models and apply other options. A small but nice enhancement for Cimatron 2026 was to show the contents (views) of the selected template right from the very start. It verifies that the template selection was correct.

  • The default name of the drawing and sheet will still come only after a model is assigned.

In Cimatron 2025 the template structure was not seen until after the step of selecting parts.

In Cimatron 2026 the template structure
is displayed immediately.

Template sheet control Picture 52

Drafting templates can be applied with great success to parts and assemblies. They automatically set up the drafting frame, views, notes, and more. If there was any restriction, it was in regard to sheet control. Making a 5 sheet drawing required a 5 sheet template. In Cimatron 2026 there are new options in the drafting template dialog that completely put aside the need for having so many templates.

  • To add another sheet to any drawing being prepared by template, click on a sheet that is an example of the desired view layout. There is a new option to Add a similar sheet. This is also found by right-clicking on a sheet.

  • The newly added sheet is a copy of the original, except it will not have a model assigned to it.

  • Unwanted sheets can be removed by selecting the sheet and clicking the double-arrows-to-the-left button. Then when you click OK, any sheets that do not have a model assigned to them at the time of drawing creation are removed.

You can still create varieties of drafting templates with different view layouts and varying amounts of sheets, but the new ability to add or remove more sheets means that one type of template is now useful in many more jobs or situations.

Add more parts into a template based drawing by selecting any sheet in the
‎template and clicking the Add a similar sheet button.

Folder control for drawings by template Picture 52

Drawings created by template are saved in a system folder that is dictated by internal rules.

  • For one drawing, the first part selected provides the folder where the drawing will go.

  • If multiple drawings are being made, they can go to different folders, again set by the location of the first part assigned.

While this logic was fine for some, others simply wanted the ability to assign the folder where the drawing or drawings would be created. The ability to browse and select a folder was added to the template dialog for Cimatron 2026. This is far more convenient than moving a drawing and preserving all its model links at a later time.

Cimatron 2026 provides specific folder control for drawings created by template.
