ID Number: Connect to a Component or Unattached

ID numbers can be connected to an assembly component or they can be unattached to any assembly component. Irrespective of the above, the ID text of an ID Number representing a part is defined in the idnum.dat file.

Connect to component

This feature allows you to connect ID numbers with BOM data to the number of the part in a sub-assembly. Numbers are assigned automatically based on whether they are first level or only parts. Different numbers are also assigned according to part type.

Attaching the ID Number

1. InvokeInvoke (for more, click Access at the top of this Help topic) the ID Number function.
2. Pick the graphics area where you wish to place the ID Number symbol.
3. Pick the geometry where you wish to place the leader.
   If you have set Place the ID Number leader at the center of the component in the Preferences under Tools > Preferences > Drafting > General > ID Number, the leader will automatically be placed in the center of the picked component.
4. Click the Connect to component button and then click the component whose data will be attached to the ID Number.
5. If required, change the ID Number. It will be updated automatically in the BOM.

Create an Unattached ID

Create an ID Number that appears in the BOM but is not attached to an assembly component.

1. InvokeInvoke (for more, click Access at the top of this Help topic) the ID Number function.
2. Pick the graphics area where you wish to place the ID Number symbol.
3. Click the Create an unattached ID button , then pick the assembly and <exit><exit>(middle mouse button) twice. A new row is added to the BOM with the next available serial number.

idnum.dat file

The ID text of an ID Number representing a part, is defined in the system resource file idnum.dat.

System resource files are located in the following folder:

...\ProgramData\Cimatron\Cimatron\2026.0\Data\Resource

English resource files are stored in the English sub-folder under Resource.

The idnum.dat file lists the catalog items and are grouped numerically, as shown in the example text below:

The first string (symbol) in the row refers to the type of catalog item (component/plate/insert, etc.).

The second string can either be a number or string. If it is a number, it refers to the start ID number of the type. If it is a string, this means that the type has the same group number as the last item listed with a number.

For example:

GP1 201

LP1 250

This means that:

• Guide Pin numbers (Id_Num) will start with 201 (and on).
• Leader Pin numbers will start with 250 (and on).
  GP1 201
  LP1 GP1

This means that:

• Guide Pin numbers (Id_Num) will start with 201 (and on).
• Leader Pin numbers will be in the same group number as Guide Pins.
