Corner : Options and Results

Access: Open this function from one of the following locations:

  • Select Wireframe > Derived Curves > Corner from the menu bar.

  • Select Curves > Corner from the following Die Design Guides: Strip Design.

Create a sharp, round, or chamfer corner between curves.

Curves, lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, 2D splines, 3D splines, closed curves, and periodic curves can be picked. Composite curves and sketches cannot be picked but their components (curves) can. The curves can lie on the same or different planes or form a chain (coincident endpoints). Intersecting curves or curves that do not form a chain (non-coincident endpoints) can also be picked.

This option includes the following:

  • Radius
Describes how to create round corners between two curves.

  • Corner
Describes how to create sharp corners between two curves.

  • Chamfer
Describes how to create chamfered corners between two curves.

Radius

Required Step 1

  1. Pick the 1st curve.

  2. Pick the 2nd curve.

  3. The round corner preview is displayed at the default distance. Enter the required Radius value of the round corner or click the arrows to increase/decrease the value incrementally.

  4. Click OKOK or ApplyApply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

The Trim/Extend options either trim or extend the selected curves, as required, to the defined corner. The system automatically recognizes the required operation. In the examples below, the curves are trimmed. The results for the Trim/Extend dropdown list of parameters are as follows:

    The original two lines:

    Trim/Extend Off

    Trim/Extend First

    Trim/Extend Second

    Trim/Extend Both

    Examples

    Notes:

    • If the picked curves lie on a plane, an arc is created on the same plane.

    • If one or both of the picked curves are 3D curves or the picked 2D curves do not lie on the same plane, a spline is created.

Corner

Required Step 1

  1. Pick the 1st curve.

  2. Pick the 2nd curve.

  3. Enter the required Distance Tolerance value of the corner or click the arrows to increase/decrease the value incrementally.

  4. Click OKOK or ApplyApply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

Chamfer

Required Step 1

  1. Pick the 1st curve.

  2. Pick the 2nd curve.

  3. The chamfered corner preview is displayed at the default distance.

  4. Enter the required Distance value of the chamfered corner or click the arrows to increase/decrease the value incrementally. Set the Trim/Extend option as required. For the Trim/Extend dropdown options, see the Trim/Extend examples above.

  5. Click OKOK or ApplyApply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

When completed, the Corner feature will appear in the Feature Tree.
