Data Interface Basics
Cimatron performs accurate and rapid data translations, allowing you to start working as soon as you receive the part from the customer. Cimatron imports and exports all standard CAD files; it can also read and write native files of common CAD systems.
Intelligent translation, error-checking, and problem resolution algorithms optimize translation integrity and richness. These techniques improve translation speed and accuracy while giving you optimal control over the various formats.
For a summary of the Data Interface Import/Export formats supported by Cimatron (including their CAD version numbers), see Cimatron's Import/Export Capabilities at a Glance.
Cimatron retains the settings of the data interface (Import/Export) dialog from its last use, including the menu state (expanded or collapsed) and the tab that was opened.
Using import/export operations
To use the Cimatron import and export operations (which displays the relevant Data Interface conversion dialog), perform one of the following:
-
Import/Export: Select the Import
or Export
icons in the main toolbar.
-
Import/Export: Select the appropriate Import or Export options under File in the menu bar.
-
Import: Drag and drop the appropriate file from a Windows browser directly into Cimatron. All files supported by Cimatron can be opened in this way.
A dragged Cimatron ELT file opens immediately in Cimatron. All other supported formats open the appropriate Data Interface import dialog.
Notes:
-
For CATIA V4, the following extensions are supported for the drag and drop operation: *.model, *.dlv, and *.exp. The *.* extension is not supported for the drag and drop operation, but is supported if you open the CATIA V4 import dialog and manually select the *.* extension option.
-
The drag and drop import operation creates a new Cimatron file other Cimatron files into the currently open file.
