Engineering Change Order (ECO) Tools

Access: Open this group of functions from the following location:

  • Select Tools > ECO Tools from the menu bar. Select the required function.

This group of functions is used to perform Engineering Change Order (ECO) operations.

In a typical system development cycle, the specification or the implementation is likely to change during engineering development or during integration of the system elements. These last-minute design changes are commonly referred to as Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and affect the functionality of a design after it has been wholly or partially completed.

The Cimatron ECO Tools provide advanced and reliable analysis, implementation, and documentation of an unlimited number of ECO changes at any stage of a job. They enable you to assess and seamlessly incorporate changes into the model that you have already undertaken work on (mending), saving you considerable time. The ECO Tools also include functionality for tracing and documenting the change history.

Note: Default ECO comparison colors are defined in the Preferences. The colors set in the Preferences are given to any new comparison. Changes in the ECO dialog do not affect the Preferences.

In addition to being available in the Assembly and Mold Project environments, the ECO Tools are also available in the DieDesign environment in a Die Layout assembly while in the Forming environment.

Add Comparison Part

Add or import a part containing an ECO.

This function brings in the ECO part (the part containing the ECO that is received from the customer) and enables you to perform comparisons. In addition, this function enables you to create a new ECO folder in the ECO Tree if you haven't already done so.

ECO Comparison

Compare and detect any engineering changes made between the ECO part received from the customer and the part to be updated (the work part, which could be a previous ECO or a master part). These changes can then be edited, and the model consequently updated.

ECO Documentation

Open the ECO documentation function.

This function holds records of all ECOs done in a certain mold project. A record consists of an "ECO Name", a description of the ECO, pictures, data regarding associated ECO files, etc. It also holds the "Status", indicating what the current status of the ECO implementation is for each of the involved parts (Not Started, In Work, Done, etc.).

ECO Tree

Display the ECO Tree which manages all ECOs. It displays information from all the ECO sub-assemblies that are under the main assembly, in a single tree.

The ECO Tree provides access to all the Cimatron ECO Tools. These tools provide advanced and reliable analysis, implementation and documentation of an unlimited number of ECO changes at any stage of a job.

Replace Faces

Replace faces in the work part with faces of an ECO part to apply an ECO change.

This function replaces faces in one part of the assembly with other part faces (deleting faces from the first part and "importing" faces from the second part).

Replace Master Part

Replace the original part with an imported modified ECO "Master" part, and automatically apply all the operations that were performed on the original part onto the new part. This replaces a time consuming manual ECO change operation with a fast, automatic mechanism.

Other functions are available via the popup menus on the ECO Tree, including:

ECO Comparison

Compare and detect any engineering changes made between the ECO part received from the customer and the part to be updated (the work part, which could be a previous ECO or a master part). These changes can then be edited, and the model consequently updated.
