Import (Drag and Drop/Direct Import) External Format File
External format files (that you have a license to read) can be opened or added directly to a Cimatron assembly without first importing them. This includes drag and drop operations as well as directly adding external format files using the Add Component function.
There are drag and drop rules for all file types and also, specifically, for external file formats. For more, see the following sections;
Drag and Drop Operations - All File Types
Drag and drop file(s) (from the Cimatron Explorer Manager View or any other external browser) into a Cimatron window. Dragged files may either be Cimatron files or external format files (that you have a license to read).
Drag and drop into either:
An empty Cimatron window (with no file open). This opens the dragged file immediately.
An open part file. This opens the dragged file immediately.
An open assembly file. This either opens the file or adds it to the assembly, depending on your defined Drag and Drop Preference option.
When adding a file to the assembly, this automatically invokes the Add Component function and skips to the 2nd stage, with the 1st stage being filled with the dragged file. In the open assembly file:
-
If the main assembly or a sub-assembly are active, the dragged file will be added to them.
-
If a part is active, the dragged file is added one level above the active part.
Drag and Drop Operations - External Format Files
Drag and drop external format files (that you are licensed to read) from the Cimatron Explorer Manager View or any other external browser into a Cimatron window.
The following occurs:
-
When dragging external format files (that you are licensed to read), this converts the imported file into the Cimatron format using the default import settings (flavor and parameter settings) and Data Interference Preference for the specific external format.
-
External format files are added based on the Data Interface Preference settings (Modeling and Drafting checkboxes). For example, DXF and DWG files are added as Drafting files by default, unless your settings are such that they should be imported as Modeling.
This applies for Drag and Drop operations and also for external format files that are directly imported using the Add Component function.
-
When dragging several external format files that open as Drafting files in Cimatron, only one Drafting file is opened; therefore, such files should be dragged one at a time.
