Mechanism Assembly
Access: Select Catalog > Create Mechanism Assembly from the Assembly menu bar.
Create a Mechanism Assembly - an assembly that has internal hierarchical relations and can only be saved to the Catalog.
A Mechanism Assembly should have the following structure; a Main Part is mandatory, while other features, such as Parent/Child Relationships, Interchangeable Parts and Catalog Filtering Relations, are optional:
The processes in using a Mechanism Assembly are as follows:
Notes:
-
Editing a Mechanism Assembly.
A Mechanism Assembly can be edited from the display area. When double-clicking on an entity belonging to the Mechanism Assembly, the subsequent interaction depends on whether the entity belongs to a catalog or non-catalog feature, or a mixed of the two.
If the entity belongs to a non-catalog feature or a non-catalog part, the interaction is the same as for any part. The dimension is displayed and can be edited.
If the entity belongs to a catalog feature, the catalog dimensions are displayed. If one of these dimensions is selected, the Edit Parameters dialog is displayed. This dialog is displayed with the following characteristics:
-
-
The Edit Parameters dialog is displayed without the Update parameter
.
-
The table is displayed and is filtered according to the Catalog Relations.
-
If another record is selected and then the Update button is pressed
, the component will be regenerated. Any client parts (defined in the Catalog Relations) will also be modified according to the relation specified. The Update button updates the whole assembly.
-
Only one dimension can be edited in one session. While the Edit Parameters dialog is displayed, no other dimension can be selected.
-
If the Edit Parameters dialog is closed by clicking on the X, all changes are ignored and regeneration does not occur.
-
Pressing Undo after editing the dimensions, will return all parts to their previous dimensions.
-
Mixed (Catalog and Non-Catalog)Mixed (Catalog and Non-Catalog)
If the entity is the result of a number of features, catalog and non-catalog, a list of the dimensions is displayed. Select the dimension to be edited. The subsequent interaction depends on whether the dimension belongs to a catalog or non-catalog feature, and is explained in the above Note.
-
Including non-catalog parts in a Mechanism Assembly.
-
-
A Mechanism Assembly can include non-catalog parts. However, the Main Part must be a catalog part.
-
Non-catalog parts behave normally when defining parent/child relationships and interchangeable parts..
-
Non-catalog parts cannot be involved in Catalog Filtering Relations. However, regular parametric relations can be taken from other parts into the non-catalog part, according to the parent/child direction.
-
Regular parametric relations can also be created between two (or more) non-catalog parts, according to the parent/child direction.
-
Regular parametric relations can also be created on non-catalog features that are created on catalog parts, according to the parent/child direction.
-
Dimensions from non-catalog parts can be used in formulas.
-
When adding a Mechanism Assembly, the non-catalog parts appear in the Edit Parameters dialog but without the dimension table.
-
After adding a Mechanism Assembly, the non-catalog parts can be edited like as any other part.
-
-
Editing a Catalog Master.
-
-
A Mechanism assembly that has been saved to the catalog, can be edited by using Edit Catalog Master. The editing flow is similar to Edit Catalog Master of part.
-
Saving the assembly back to the catalog will be the same as saving it for the first time.
-
When adding/getting the Mechanism Assembly (after the catalog master has been edited), the link to the catalog will be broken. This means that the old assembly with Mechanism Assembly will not "know" that the catalog master was changed.
