Rotary Axis Preferred Position

Define the preferred position of the rotary axis.

For 3+2 axes milling on 5 axes machines, there are usually two potential solutions for the machine rotary axes. The GPP2 Post Processor chooses the preferred solution based on post-processor parameters that can specify preference for one or both axes, choosing the positive or negative angle.

Depending on the NC procedure, one or more of these options may be available.

With 5 axes NC planning, it may be required to select the preferred solution per procedure, by choosing one of the following options from the dropdown list:

None

No specific rotary axis is preferred.

This is the default option.

Positive

A positive rotary axis is preferred.

See Positive/Negative below.

Negative

A negative rotary axis is preferred.

See Positive/Negative below.

Positive / Negative

If the Positive or Negative option is selected, an additional parameter is displayed: Preferred Rotary Axis Name. This is a text box that accepts one capital letter as the preferred axis. The axis "C" is the default value.

If a relevant axis letter is specified, then GPP2 will use that preference (positive or negative) for this procedure, instead of the internal preference parameter for this axis. The procedure preference overrides the internal GPP2 preference parameter.

GPP2 ignores this parameter value if it is not relevant; for example if the letter entered does not represent a valid axis for the selected NC Machine (see Machine Preview), there are not two possible solutions for the machine rotary axes, etc.

In the Process Manager, the Rotary Position column identifies whether a Preferred Rotary Axis Position was defined for the procedure. If a valid axis was defined, the name of the preferred rotary axis is displayed together with the plus or minus sign to represent the "Negative" or "Positive" setting, for example C+.

The preferred rotary axis is defined in the Machine Parameters Table of the procedure.
