Shell : Open Objects

Turn a solid object to a shell or add thickness to an open object.

Demo: Press the button below to view a short movie demonstrating the function:

Practice: Press the button below to open Cimatron with a practice ELT file similar to that used to create the movie (if the relevant feature already exists in the ELT file, you can either edit it or delete it and create a new feature).

You do not have to pick a closed solid object to create a shell; open objects will work as well.

Example:

The object shown below is a closed solid object.

Create an open object by removing the top face. This is done using the Remove Geometry function

Enter the Shell function. The options are the same as for a solid object. In the case of an open object, in addition to the Inside and Outside parameters, there is also an inside / outside arrow which you can click to toggle between the two options. (Not available for the Both Sides parameter).

Click OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function. The results are the same as for a closed solid object.
