Activate Parent Assembly

Access: Open this function from one of the following locations:

  • Click the  button in the toolbar.

  • Select Assembly > Main Tools > Activate Parent Assembly from the menu bar.

  • Double-click the assembly name in the Assembly Tree.

  • Right-click on the assembly name in the Assembly Tree to display the popup menu and select Activate Component.

  • Right-click in the graphics window to display the Graphics Area popup menu and select Activate Parent Assembly.

Activate the assembly containing the currently active component. Invoke this function after you have finished editing a part. This closes the Part environment, returns you to the Assembly environment and activates the parent assembly of the currently active component.

The result of this function is as follows:

  • If no components are selected, the assembly above the currently active component is activated.

  • If components are selected, the common parent assembly of all the selected items is activated.

  • If the main assembly is active, the Activate Parent Assembly function name appears shaded.

This option can be used at any point to move the tree activation status up one assembly level. For example, when selecting parts from the screen, no matter what is currently active, you can pick a face from any component, then choose the Activate Parent Assembly option to begin working at that same sub-assembly level. Using this option, you will be able to add components into the correct sub-assembly quickly.
