Cimatron Catalog Updates: Lower Level

Access: Open this function from the following location:

  • Cimatron Control Panel: Select Start > All Programs > Cimatron > Cimatron Control Panel.

Select Main Menu > Cimatron Catalog Updates.

Download Mold & Die part catalogs, or update your existing catalogs.

New or updated catalog items are constantly released by Cimatron and uploaded to the server. Once released, the items become immediately available for all Cimatron users, and can be downloaded directly onto your computer.

InvokeInvoke (for more, click Access at the top of this Help topic) the function to check the status of all catalogs. If required, download or check for an update.

This function has two levels (or modes) of views; a Higher Level and a Lower Level view.

The Lower Level catalog update mode shows data for a specific selected catalog. This displays a comparison between the locally installed catalog items (on your computer or your network folder) and the latest catalog items available from the server. You can see which items are new or updated for a specific catalog and selectively download them.

The Catalog Parts Download and Update (Lower Level) dialog is displayed. This dialog is displayed when the Browser button button is clicked for a specific catalog in the Catalog Parts Download and Update: Higher Level dialog.

Note: Once the Catalog Update tool is launched, it collects data from the main local catalog folder and from the catalog server. The catalog data appears dynamically after each catalog is loaded. This process may take a while. If you wish to interrupt the load process, press the Esc keyboard button. This stops the load process at the end of the catalog currently being loaded.

The lower level dialog displays all the officially released items for the selected catalog and, if they exist, also local catalog items installed only on the user’s PC (also if they not available on the catalog server).

The display is divided into two parts, divided by the catalog image column.

The red box on the right indicates data from the server and the red box on the left indicates data from the local catalog folder on your PC or network. Hence, this view enables a comparison between each catalog item that is located on the local catalog folder against the official catalog available from the server.

Images (and additional local catalog information) are displayed only if the relevant catalogs are located on the local PC or network.

The image below shows information on catalog items that do not exist locally; notice the blank cell and missing part images on the right side.

Handling Mold Configurations

Dialog Buttons

In the descriptions below, the term 'catalog item' refers to either a catalog part, a catalog assembly or a catalog configuration.

Main Catalog Folder

The Main Catalog Folder is the parent folder on your computer or local network, under which your catalogs folders are installed. You can browse to change this folder anytime and set another main catalog folder. You can have as many catalog folders as you like under this main folder.

If you have ever installed Cimatron Catalogs on your computer from the Cimatron Catalogs DVD, then the Main Catalog folder will show your current Catalog Folder. If a current Catalog Folder is not found, the system will ask you to set the Main Catalog Folder.

If you do have Cimatron catalogs installed already on your computer and wish to update this catalog, or to install additional catalogs to the same location, set the path to the Main Catalog Folder.

For example, if your Hasco inch catalog is located in the folder:
D:\Catalogs\My Catalog\Hasco inch

then the Main Catalog Folder to select is:
D:\Catalogs\My Catalog

For example, if a Provider or Reseller partially translated a catalog, local users can see only these translated items.

When this checkbox is OFF , and only some catalog items are translated, the view is a mixed mode view, non-translated catalog items are shown in English and the translated items are shown in the local language.

Display Assemblies Only

When this checkbox is marked , only assemblies are displayed.
If a single assembly row is selected (irrespective of whether the Display Assemblies Only checkbox is ON or OFF), the adjacent Assembly Mode - Related Parts button becomes available. See Buttons below, for an explanation.

Sub-Category

Local Catalog Version

The Catalog Version determines whether or not a catalog item on your PC or local network is updated.
Each item located on the server has a Catalog Version number; this is an internal property of each and every officially released catalog item.
All the items located on the server have a version number, Version 1 or higher.
All the Cimatron catalog items that exist before the introduction of the catalog server, or items that are created locally, do not have a version, and hence, these are regarded as Version 0.
Each time an item is changed and submitted for release, its own catalog version number is incremented. An item that has a higher version number on the server (than on your PC or local network) is therefore shown as an Updated Item.

See Catalog/Product Versioning.

Images (and additional local catalog information) are displayed only if the relevant catalogs are located on the local PC or network.

Cimatron Version (Local)

The Cimatron Version displays the Cimatron version number on which the catalog was created. This is displayed for catalog items on your PC or local network and also for catalog server items.

Creation Date

The date the locally installed catalog item was created.

Modify Date

The date the locally installed catalog item was modified.

Catalog Relative Path

The relative folder path of the selected catalog item, under the defined Main Catalog Folder.

Picture

An image of the locally installed catalog item.

Images (and additional local catalog information) are displayed only if the relevant catalogs are located on the local PC or network.

See Dialog Customization: Catalog Image.

Catalog Version (Server)

Cimatron Version (Server)

The Cimatron Version displays the Cimatron version number on which the catalog was created. This is displayed for catalog items on your PC or local network and also for catalog server items.

Language

The language in which the catalog is provided.

A Cimatron Provider or Reseller can upload additional catalog items to the server or upload their translated items (these are the same items as released by Cimatron, but with their names translated into the local language).

If you are a German user (and are using the German flag with Cimatron: -lang DE-DE) and the Cimatron Provider or Reseller has uploaded some translated catalog items, then you will see the those translated German items and the rest are in English. This means that if the same item exists in the server in English and German, the German end user will see only the German items.

If the catalog item was not translated into German, the German user will see the English item.

This also depends on the catalog item's Version. The user always sees the last version, so if the English version is higher than the German version of the same catalog item, the user will only see the English version item.

Release Date

The date of release of the catalog version on the server.

Comments

A comments area that describes the type of change that has occurred in the catalog, such as:
New Product Version
Updated Catalog Table
etc.

Download Options

There are two download modes: Download as Zip and Download Parts to Folder (Backup & Overwrite).

Download as Zip

Download the selected catalog items as a single ZIP file to the specified catalog folder. Existing items in the catalog folder are not replaced. Manually extract the new items from the ZIP file to install them into the catalog folder.

Download Parts to Folder (Backup & Overwrite)

Download the selected catalog items to the specified catalog folder. This option replaces the existing items in the catalog folder with the latest items available from the server.
Any existing catalog items in the folder with the same name as the downloaded items, are saved as backup files (*.BAC) and the new items are downloaded to the catalog folder.

Note: The selection for download is based on catalog item selection. When downloading a catalog  assembly, make sure to select all the items which are related to this assembly.
If you are not sure that you have selected all the items, sort the table by the Catalog Relative Path.
In the example image below, taken from the Knarr catalog, notice some parts that are located in the main Knarr catalog folder and below them several parts that are placed under a sub-folder.

Handling Mold Configurations

Mold configuration folders are located in a separate, dedicated, folder.

Each configuration folder is treated as a single catalog 'item'. The configuration shows as a single line and displays a version number.

When downloading parts/assemblies that participate in mold configurations, the mold configuration folder downloads as well, to ensure that you have the latest configuration installed.

When downloading an entire mold catalog, the relevant mold configuration folder downloads as well.
