Close Open Gaps : Options and Results

Access: Open this function from the following location:

  • Select Faces > Create Faces > Close Open Gaps from the menu bar.

Create faces that close open gaps in a skin of stitched faces

A gap is regarded as an island or any closed loop of open (free) edges.

Required Step 1

Set the parameters and pick open edge(s) or loop(s) to be closed.

Note: When no entities are currently selected and using Select All or Select by Box, the longest loop will be ignored.

The following parameters are displayed:

Same Faces

This is a toggle option: Same Faces / New Faces.

Same Faces

Create the same (original) faces after closing the gap.

New Faces

Create new faces after closing the gap.

Note: The default color of the new faces is defined in the Preferences.

Merge Adjacent Faces - Off

This is a toggle option: Merge Adjacent Faces - Off / Merge Adjacent Faces - On.

Merge Adjacent Faces - Off

Do not merge the created adjacent faces after closing the gap.

Merge the created adjacent faces after closing the gap.

Create Wires on Loops that cannot be closed

This is a dropdown list of the following options:

Don't create Wires

For each selected loop, close the loop by a face. If the loop cannot be closed by a face, ignore the gap - leave it open (do not create a wire).
Example:Example:

Pick an open edge(s) or loop(s).

Result: Where possible, the loops are closed by a face, otherwise the gaps are left open -no wires are created.

 

Create only Wires in selected loops (no faces)

For each selected loop, close the loop by creating only a wire (do not close by a face).
Example:Example:

Pick an open edge(s) or loop(s).

Result: The loops are closed only by wires.

 

Create Wires on Loops that cannot be closed

For each selected loop that cannot be closed by a face, create a wire around it.
Example:Example:

Pick an open edge(s) or loop(s).

Result: Where possible, the loops are closed by a face, otherwise wires are created.

Pick an open edge(s) or loop(s).

The whole closed loop is automatically selected.
