Consider Previous Stock (Hole Geometry – Consider Previous Stock)
This parameter appears in Finish, Cleanup, Pencil, and Automated Drill procedures and enables you to define whether or not to consider the previous stock information before generating tool motions. Previous stock is used to control the approach and retract motions and the air motion height.
In Automated Drill procedures, this parameter is called Hole Geometry – Consider Previous Stock (see below).
Notes:
-
In Rough, it determines the Z-Up and Z-Down, and in Finish it determines Z-Down.
-
In Automated Drill, only the options, Yes and No, are available. See Automated Drill: Stock or Geometry Changes below for additional information.
-
In Finish procedures (Finish, Cleanup and Pencil), the default for using the stock can be defined in the NC Preferences > Procedure Parameter Defaults.
Depending on the NC procedure, one or more of these options may be available.
Yes |
Use the previous stock for toolpath generation. This causes the procedure to be suspended if there are changes in one of the previous procedures. |
||||||
Yes - Actual |
Consider the actual stock (the initial stock of the procedure, not the stock updated during calculation) before generating tool motions. This option is only available in 4/5X Automated Drill.
|
||||||
Yes - By Box |
Consider the bounding box of the stock before generating tool motions. This option is only available in 4/5X Automated Drill. For an explanation of this parameter in Automated Drill, see Automated Drill - Attach Sequence options.
|
||||||
No |
The previous stock is not considered and previous procedures are ignored. When deciding not to consider the previous stock information, this enables you to: calculate these procedures without using any previous stock information. avoid recalculating previous stock information if it has no influence on the generated tool motions: avoid recalculating the procedure if there was a change in the tool motions before it (if the previous stock information has no influence on the generated tool motions). use the Part and Check surfaces as the previous stock information. |
||||||
Face Offset |
The previous stock is not considered and previous machining is ignored. The procedure performs a collision check of the Holder, approach/retract motions and air motions against a virtual stock defined as an offset from the selected Part and Check faces. This enables you to: save calculation time prevent automatic recalculation if a previous procedure(s) is changed. The Face Offset parameter is displayed:

Automated Drill: Stock or Geometry Changes
In Automated Drill procedures, this parameter is called Hole Geometry - Consider Previous Stock and only the options are available; Yes, Yes - Actual, Yes - Bounding Box and No are available.
The stock is included in the automated drill’s grouping of surfaces. This means that a change in the stock will not affect the group or hole. See the Stock parameter options.
If a stock or geometry change has occurred since the last save operation, the following options are displayed to regroup the automatically and manually defined sequences.
When the default options are selected, the holes are recalculated and the system checks that the existing holes are still valid. The Groups remain with the same Holes and the Sequences remain attached to the Groups.
Automatically Assigned sequences
Set the option for automatically assigned sequences, from the dropdown list. The following options are available:
Regroup |
Regroup automatically assigned sequences: The following regroup operation occurs: A new group is created for each sequence that contains non-empty groups. Each new group is checked to see if it still matches the sequence definition. If not, it is moved to the Unassigned Groups. A new group is created for all grouped holes in the Unassigned Groups list. All empty groups are deleted. Note: Point Selected Drills are lost. |
Keep |
Keep the currently assigned sequences. Some sequences may not fit. |
Remove Modified |
All changed holes are removed from their groups. |
Manually Assigned sequences
Set the option for manually assigned sequences from the dropdown list. The following options are available:
Keep |
Keep the currently assigned sequences. Some sequences may not fit. This is the default option. |
Remove Modified |
All changed holes are removed from their groups. |
When finished, press one of the following approval options:
|
OK: Accept the changes, perform the operation, and close the current dialog/task. |
|
Cancel: Cancel all changes and close the dialog/task without saving the settings. |
