Most Cimatron projects begin with some sort of imported data. This data ends up in down-level assemblies, NC files, electrode projects, and more. Now in Cimatron 2026 the system will actually monitor the folder that stores the original import data, and let you know when a new STEP, IGES, or other source file has arrived.
This check – Data Import Monitoring - is preference controlled and can be turned on or off at the individual file level. It can also be used in two different ways – by checking the same folder for any new import data of the same type, or more narrowly, checking only new data files with the exact same name as the original.
It is important to note that the alert isn’t importing the new data or processing the ECO. This remains in your hands, but when a Cimatron file is being opened and a new (later dated) neutral file is found, a notification is issued. There are 3 ways to react to the alert:
- Turn Off – Data import monitoring is not desired in this project. The preference value will be unchecked.
- Acknowledge – The notification was seen and this new data file can be considered taken care of. It will be marked as no longer new.
- Remind me later – The notification was seen but the new data cannot be processed now. Keep letting me know.
Data import monitoring is a powerful new tool. The behavior is tailored to match the type of file being opened:
- Only NC files made directly from a data import will be checked. NC on Cimatron data is already being updated by the normal file associativity to the part.
- Opening an imported assembly will only check for the assembly name, but opening a Cimatron created assembly can check the names of any imported part it contains.
- Mold assemblies are able to check for the name of the master part that sourced the parting work file.
