Cimatron CAD AI leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to analyze complex 3D geometry, detect, and classify relevant manufacturing features, and automatically prepare data for downstream CAM and NC automation. Feature Detection is one of the tools offered by Cimatron CAD-AI.

Cimatron 2026 SP2 and above provides AI based feature detection, an automated capability that identifies manufacturing features (such as holes, pockets, slots, chamfers, rounds, and stock) directly from CAD geometry. This capability provides built-in support for 27 predefined feature types shown here, significantly improving usability, clarity, and scalability of feature recognition results.

Feature detection functions powered by AI will improve in accuracy and overall performance with continued use because it uses machine learning to improve and perfect feature data. Cimatron already provides tight CAD/CAM integration, and now CAD AI significantly reduces the amount of manual preparation required by enabling intelligent, confidence-driven feature recognition.

As CAD/CAM software technologies continue to evolve to meet changing industry demands, traditional feature detection functions will become increasingly slow compared to newer, AI-based technologies. In the future, it will be possible to customize feature sets and training according to customer requirements using Cimatron CAD-AI.

Development is driven by the customer belief that feature recognition of CAD files is the top use case for AI-enabled functionalities, and guidance/recommendation for CAD design and CAM programming would be the second most valuable application of AI technology.

Additionally, the automated detection of quality deviations in part inspections, and the general use of AI to solve everyday tasks are the most helpful use case for AI-enabled technologies.
