Access: Open this group of functions from one of the following locations:

  • Select Parting Analysis Tools from the Mold Design Guide Toolbar. Select the required function.

  • Select Analysis > Geometry Inspection Tools from the menu bar. Select the required function.

This group of functions is used to evaluate open edge faults (mismatches and gaps), making it easier to locate faults and repair solids. Repairing solids partially or completely is not required, but often leads to massive time savings in later stages of the mold design.

The following functions are available in this group:

Body Integrity Analysis

Analyze various geometry quality issues of a selected B-rep object.

Check & Fix Entities

Analyze the integrity of geometry, view the results, and enable problematic entities to be fixed.

Delete Analysis Marks

Delete selected analysis marks created by the last used analysis operation. The markings are areas indicated as problematic during the analysis.

Hide/Show Analysis Marks

Hide or show the analysis marks created by the last used analysis operation. The markings are areas indicated as problematic during the analysis.

The Geometry Inspection Tools includes a large range of different analysis options. The following sections describe the tool’s main functions:

Evaluation and Mending of Imported Parts

Analysis of Parting Surfaces and QuickSplit Faces

Analysis to Define the Parting Line

Evaluation and Mending of Imported Parts

Mold Makers often work with imported parts that contain small, hard to locate faults (usually mismatches or gaps between surfaces). The Open Edge Analysis has the following advantages for those working with such parts:

  • Full evaluation (by object) of faults in the entire object. This enables you to immediately understand the part that you are working on and to locate problematic areas.

  • Local evaluation (by selection). The analysis tools can show which faults you have to mend in specific areas, in order to stitch successfully on the first try. This can save hours of stitching trial and error.

Benefits:

  • Immediate evaluation of imported objects.

  • Simple and fast identification of areas that need mending, and evaluation of post-mending.

In the example below, the areas marked in yellow and pink contain faults. Open edges are shown in a yellow color, and a highlighted dot helps indicate gaps that may exist. You can evaluate the quality of the mending of the imported part.

Analysis of Parting Surfaces and QuickSplit Faces

The Open Edge Analysis helps you to improve the quality of active parts from within the parting environment, thus speeding up the entire mold design process.

The analysis enables free selection in specific local areas of parting surfaces and QuickSplit faces to identify faults.

This includes the following faults:

  • Within the QuickSplit faces only (all the faces of the part that are allocated to one Quicksplit direction).

  • Between the QuickSplit faces and parting surfaces.

  • Between the parting surfaces only.

  • In areas that include both QuickSplit faces and parting surfaces based on free selection.

The analysis can make it easier for you to ensure completely solid active parts in the parting environment, and to ensure that work in the assembly environment is faster and easier.

Benefits:

  • Option to ensure 100% solid active parts while still in the parting environment.

  • Easy to spot faults.

  • Easy to repair faults.

  • Fast parting process.

  • Fast mold tool design process.

In the example below, there are several open edges between the QuickSplit faces and the parting surfaces that require attention.

Analysis to Define the Parting Line

This analysis helps you to ensure the parting line’s definition is error-free, so that there are no delays in later stages of the mold design.

In order for the parting line to be correctly defined, no single surface of the part can spread across both sides of the parting line. You need to split surfaces of the part at the parting line.

This means that you are able to create parting surfaces in the optimal places, without considering the edges of the QuickSplit faces. At a later stage, you can adapt face edges to the parting line.

Benefits:

  • No split-related delays in the mold assembly environment.

  • Fast, smooth parting design process.

The Free Edges option of the Open Edge Analysis function checks for surfaces that need to be split. In the example below, the gray surface is a parting surface. The green surface crosses both sides of the parting surface, and therefore needs to be split.
