Mechanism Assembly : Creating & Saving

Access: Select Catalog > Create Mechanism Assembly from the Assembly menu bar.

The process of creating and saving a Mechanism Assembly is as follows:

  1. Create a regular assembly that includes all parts that may be included in the Mechanism Assembly. This assembly must meet certain conditions. Save the assembly.

  2. Define the Main Part in the Mechanism Assembly. This is a mandatory stage; all the other stages are optional.

  3. Define Parent/Child relations. Suppressing the parent will also suppress the child.

  4. Define Alternative Parts - those parts that can be interchanged with other parts.

  5. Define Catalog Filtering Relations. These are not regular parametric relations; the Catalog Relations creates filtering rules on the parts in the catalog. The Catalog Relations uses the assembly parent/child relationship.

  6. Create formulas that assist you when loading the assembly from the catalog. These formulas are based on the part dimensions and provide information that is necessary when loading the Mechanism Assembly from the catalog. These formulas help you to choose the best combination of parts.

  7. Save as a Mechanism Assembly.
