Cimatron - Mold Project: Parting

Access: Invoke this function from one of the following locations:

The Cimatron Parting environment is part of an integrated solution for mold design and manufacturing that provides purpose-built, automated features, analysis tools, and dedicated surfacing functions to help you quickly establish the parting line and create the surfaces of the core, cavity, lifters, and sliders that will shape the plastic.

Highlights

Use QuickSplit - a fast and accurate parting and cavity design tool:

  • Start mold design immediately on any model, no matter what the quality of the part.

  • Ensure flawless parting with dedicated analysis tools to identify undercuts, check geometry, and verify parting surfaces.

  • Define multiple opening directions—automatically assigning faces to the correct directions and supporting any number of sliders and lifters.

  • Quickly generate geometry for cores, cavities, sliders, lifters, and other active components for even the most complex molds.

  • Apply engineering changes methodically to parting at any point in the project.

  • Quickly perform mending and surfacing work using powerful hybrid solid/surface modeling capabilities that cater specifically to the tooling industry.

  • Shorten delivery times by using applicative tools to send components to NC programming, milling, and wire EDM on the first day of design.

For additional information, see the Parting application and also the list of Parting functions.

Terms

Core/Cavity: Generally, injection molds have two major components, the core (movable side) and the cavity (fixed side). During the injection molding process, these two sides are pressed together and the heated material (melt) is injected into the hollow to form the molded part.

Parting Line: A line that separates the core and cavity halves of a molded part and is generally located where there is a difference in the draft angles of each half of the mold. The parting line is used to create the parting surfaces.

Parting Surfaces: Parting surfaces separate the core and cavity mold halves; they are the contact surfaces of the two halves of the mold. Parting surfaces do not form the molded part.
