Resize Chamfers : Options and Results

Access: Open this function from one of the following locations:

  • Select Resize Chamfers   from the toolbar.

  • Select Solid > Main Tools > Resize Chamfers from the menu bar.

Resize chamfer faces directly instead of removing them and creating new features. This function also offers the option to create new chamfers to replace existing chamfers.

Resize Chamfers can be applied to any series of chamfer faces. The function measures and displays the current value of the chamfer, then offers multiple methods to modify it. You can either define a new chamfer value or enlarge or reduce the size of the current chamfer by a specified value. This function offers significant time-savings compared to manually removing chamfers and replacing them with new features.

Required Step 1

Pick the chamfer faces and then <exit><exit>(middle mouse button).

Required Step 2

Define the parameters. The parameters that are displayed depend on the faces selected:

Chamfer faces with Constant sizes selected

Chamfer faces with Varying sizes selected

Parameters

Chamfer Size

These non-editable (grayed out) parameters contain the chamfer size values that are automatically detected by Cimatron. These parameters are displayed as a guide to assist you when resizing the selected faces.

Current Chamfer
If Cimatron detects all chamfer faces are identical in size, this value is displayed as the Current Chamfer parameter.

Min. and Max.
If Cimatron detects multiple chamfer sizes, the minimum and maximum size values are displayed in the Min. and Max. parameters to serve as reference as you resize the chamfer faces.

Chamfer size cannot be determined

If the chamfer geometry is extremely complex, the parameter will indicate that the chamfer size cannot be determined.

Define Chamfer

This toggle option allows you to set new values for existing chamfer faces or create new ones.

Resize Chamfer

Resize the current chamfer value(s) by enlarging or reducing the value by a specified amount.

Select the Enlarge By / Reduce By toggle option to enlarge or reduce the chamfer face(s) size based on a specified value. The default value for this option is .5000 mm or .03125 inches.

Note: If the Reduce By value is larger that the minimum value detected, the entered value is displayed in RED.

Offset Chamfer

If Cimatron detects that the selected chamfer faces have non-symmetrical geometry (angled walls, contoured surfaces, multi-size selections, non-45 degree chamfers), Offset Chamfer will be displayed instead of Resize Chamfer, allowing you to perform an offset on the selected chamfer.

Define Chamfer

Replace the selected chamfer face with a new chamfer.

Enter a value for Global Distance to define the new chamfer's size or use  to select an existing chamfer face or point and use its value.

Global Distance allows you to set the value used by Cimatron to recreate a new symmetric chamfer to replace the selected chamfer. The default value for this option is 1 mm or .03125 inches.

Click OK or Apply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.

When completed, the Resize Chamfers feature will appear in the Feature Tree.
