5X Production Geometry

The selection of various geometric entities may be required to execute a 5X Production procedure. The type of geometric entity to be selected, depends on the machining strategy selected in the dialog displayed by pressing the Access button in the Tool Trajectory parameter table.

5X Production Machining Strategy

Geometry Required

Cuts Along Curve

Lead Curve

Morph between 2 Curves

Upper Curve; Lower Curve

Morph between 2 Surfaces

Upper Surface; Lower Surface

The following specific geometry can be selected either from the Tool Trajectory dialog or from the Geometry branch:

Geometry Type

Data Required

No. of Entities

Geometric Similarity

Boundary Curves

Nurbs

0-2 contours

Boundary Faces

Nurbs + triangulation

0-2 sets

Similar to Part Surfaces

Check Faces

Dummy Nurbs + triangulation

0-4 sets

Similar to Check Surfaces

Drive Faces

Nurbs + triangulation

one set

Similar to Part Surfaces

Feed Control Zone Surfaces

Mesh and surfaces.

This geometry type only appears in the 5X Projection procedure and only when the Utility tab is opened.

Part Surfaces

Mesh and surfaces. Only triangulation data is used.

Tilt Curve

Nurbs

0/1

Similar to a Top Contour in the Ruled Surface procedure

Tilt Lines

Nurbs

0-not limited

Similar to Part Surfaces, however, in the Selection Filter, only Lines are pickable. These lines must be predefined from the cutter tip to the spindle.

Important: To ensure the correct tool orientation, the direction of the tilt lines is most important. The start point of the lines should be at the cutter tip and the end point should be towards the spindle.

Note: In the 5X Production procedure, some faces can be defined as both Drive and Check Surfaces.
