: Point from Curve/Face
Access: Open this function from one of the following locations:
-
Select Wireframe > Main Tools > Line from the menu bar.
-
Select Curves > Line from the following Die Design Guides: Strip Design.
Create a line starting from a point on a curve, edge, or face with a given length that is Normal or Tangent to the picked curve, edge, or face.
See Line: Options & Results for additional line creation options.
Demo: Press the button below to view a short movie demonstrating the function: |
Practice: Press the button below to open Cimatron with a practice ELT file similar to that used to create the movie (if the relevant feature already exists in the ELT file, you can either edit it or delete it and create a new feature). |

Notes:
-
When selecting the Normal parameter and a line or 3D curve is picked, the number of solutions is infinite. In these cases, the resulting line will be a line lying on the active plane or parallel to the active plane or on a plane near the active plane.
-
The active plane is the XY plane of the active UCS.
-
If the active plane is perpendicular to the selected line, any other plane can be used.
-
In cases where the selection point does not lie on the curve/face, the distance between the point and the curve/face is checked and if found to be smaller than the value of the "Intersection Tolerance," a line is created. Intersection Tolerance can be modified in Tools > Preferences > General.
-
-
Click OKOK or ApplyApply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.
When completed, the Line feature will appear in the Feature Tree.
