Measurement : Object/Mesh Data

Select the required object(s)/mesh object and the system displays the object data. This includes, the volume, mass, clamping force, number of faces, number of faces, projected area, center axis coordinates and so on. This data is displayed if the Auto Calculation option was selected the last time the function was used.

The Measurement dialog is displayed. Click the Data button.

Note: The system automatically displays the last measurement type in the Primary Data Area. For example, if you use the (Measuring Curvature) option to measure a circle and then select the (Measuring Distance) option, the distance data for the circle is displayed.

You can click the Export to File button to display the Report Preview window, enabling you to save a report file containing the measurements in ASCII, or QCD formats, for further details refer to Displaying Reports.

Lite Calculation

When measuring data on closed B-rep objects, selecting the Lite Calculation checkbox reduces the calculation time by not including the Moment of Inertia and the Faces area in the calculation.

For all system calculations, there is a correlation between the required accuracy level and the duration of the calculations; setting a higher accuracy level will extend the calculation time.

The contents of the Measurement dialog for object data depends on whether the selected objects are closed, open or both, as shown below:

Closed Object:

Open Object:

Closed and Open objects:

Note: Approximated measurement results are displayed for a number of rows. This data is displayed in red. See the explanations for the Primary and Secondary areas below.

The Measurement dialog displays the following information:

/

The hide/show bulbs are displayed in the Volume Open and Volume Closed rows and enable you to hide or show the selected open and closed objects.

These hide/show bulbs are displayed if only open objects, or both open and closed objects are selected. If only closed objects are selected, the hide/show bulbs are not displayed.

Primary Data Area:
The first row indicates the number and type of object(s) (Open and/or Closed) that were selected using the Data button.

This displays the volume, mass, clamping force and the number of faces in the selected object(s).

If open objects, or both open and closed objects are selected, approximated measurement results are displayed for some rows and these are displayed in RED - see the examples below.
Example:Example:

Closed and Open objects data.
This displays the following:

  • Volume Closed: The volume of all the closed objects.
  • Volume Open: The volume of all open objects. This is an estimated number and is displayed in RED.
  • Volume Total: The total volume of all the open and closed objects. This is an estimated number and is displayed in RED.
  • Mass: The mass, taking into account the Total Volume. This is an estimated number and is displayed in RED.
  • Clamping Force
  • No of Faces

Hide/Show bulbs enable you to hide or show the closed and/or open objects.

Open Object data only.
This displays data pertaining to the open objects only.

Closed Object data only.
This displays data pertaining to the closed objects only.

Secondary Data Area:
Displays the center X, Y, and Z coordinates of the selected object, the bounding box coordinates, the total projected area and surface area of the object, and so on.
The Projected Area result is an approximated measurement and is displayed in RED.

Advanced Area:
Displays the following defaults:
Reference UCS
, units of measurement, density, injection pressure and distance type.

Change the defaults if applicable.

Note: The density value can also be changed in the Information tool when displaying information about an object.

Toggle the Auto Calculation button to the Manual Calculation button to perform calculations manually.

Open Object Message

If at least one open object is selected, the following message is displayed

Unselect Open Objects

Unselect the open object and continue; the Measurement dialog is displayed without taking into account the unselected open objects.

Skip Calculation

Skip the Center of Gravity and Moment of Inertia calculations and continue; The Measurement dialog is displayed without these calculations.

Closed Object Message

When selecting one or more closed solid bodies and the volume calculation fails, the problematic entities are highlighted and the following message is displayed, detailing the specific entity or entities:

The following buttons are available:

Zoom the display to the problematic entity.

Return the display to the previous picture (the display as it was prior to using the Zoom button).
