Export to Part : Options and Results

Access: Open this function from the following location:

  • Select File > Export > Export To Part from the Part menu bar.

Export entities to a new part file.

Export the currently open Cimatron file, or specific entities within the file, to a new Cimatron Part file. The default export folder is defined in the Preferences.

Required Step 1

Pick the entities to be exported.

Notes:

  • Valid entities include curves (including composite curves and sketches), faces, objects, and datums (plane, axis, UCS).

  • Multiple entities can be selected.

  • Mixed entities can be selected; however, objects cannot be selected with other entities. For example, curves and faces can be selected; objects and faces cannot be selected.

  • Sets can be selected. If the new file is associative, new entities assigned to the set in the source file will be added to the exported set upon update.

  • Any Set Folders in the selected sets are exported, replicating the structure in the parent Set.

Set the appropriate export parameters. The parameters that are displayed depend on whether an assembly or part was active at the time the function was invoked:

Part Parameters

Non-Associative

This is a toggle option: Associative / Non-Associative:

Non-Associative

There is no link between the original entity and the exported entity. This is the default option.

Associative

The associativity is kept to the placement and geometric dependencies.

The entity can only be edited in the source file.

The associativity is kept with the entity and with its children. For example, if the original entity is divided after it is exported to another file, then the exported entity is divided as well.

The exported entity will be marked in the feature tree as an associative geometry. The status of this entity can be changed at any time to non-associative.

Entity Selection

The following dropdown options are available:

Entity Selection

Export selected entities from the currently open file to another Cimatron Part file.

Select entities in the currently open file that you wish to export.

Set Selection

Export selected Sets from the currently open file to another Cimatron Part file.

The Set Filter dialog is displayed. Select the Sets to be included in the export operation.

Press OK.

Whole Model

Export the whole model from the currently open file to another Cimatron Part file.

As Main UCS

This parameter is displayed as a toggle option, As Main UCS / As Active, that enables you to select by which UCS to position the entities:

As Main UCS

Position the exported entities according to the main UCS.

As Active

Position the exported entities according to the active UCS.

If the Active UCS is the same as the Main UCS, this parameter is grayed out on Main UCS.

Export Sets & M-Views - On

This is a toggle option, Export Sets & M-Views - On / Export Sets & M-Views - Off, that enables you to include/exclude Sets and M-Views as part of the export operation.

Export Sets & M-Views - On

Include all Sets, Set Folders, and M-Views when exporting to another Cimatron Part file.

  • The names of the created Sets and M-Views in the target file will be the same as those in the source, unless a name already exists, in which case the target names will have the suffix "#Index number".

  • The names of the created Set Folders in the target file will be the same as those in the source; If a name already exists, the contents will be copied to the existing folder. Matching set names in different locations (such as one in a folder, and the other not in a folder) will be kept separate, and the imported set folder name will get a #1 suffix.

Exploded views are not exported.

Notes: If the new file is associative, then:

  • If entities are removed and added to the source set, only the added entities will be added to the target set when invoking Update.

  • If sets are removed and added in the source file, only the added sets will be added to the target file when invoking Update.

  • If sets are removed and added in the target file, the added sets will stay and the removed sets will be added back when invoking Update.

  • Set Folders are updated with the Sets. If a folder name already exists in the target, the contents of the existing and copied folders are merged. Matching set names in different locations (such as one in a folder, and the other not in a folder) will be kept separate, and the imported set folder name will get a #1 suffix.

  • Orientation and section data are updated when invoking Update.

Export Sets & M-Views - Off

Exclude all Sets and M-Views when exporting to another Cimatron Part file.

Press <exit><exit>(middle mouse button). The Cimatron Explorer is displayed.

Browse to the required folder, select or enter the name of the Cimatron Part file to receive the exported entities, and press Save. The default export folder is defined in the Preferences.
