Procedures: Divide Procedures by Cutter Change

Access: Open this function from the following location:

  • Select NC Edit > Other > Divide Procedure by Cutter Change from the menu bar.

A procedure containing multiple cutters can be divided by cutter into separate procedures, each of which uses only one cutter.

A procedure may have multiple cutters in the following circumstances:

Defined within the procedure

Select the Use Multiple Cutters parameter, under Cutters & Holders within the Procedure. The Use Multiple Cutters parameter is displayed in the following functions: Finish, Cleanup and Pencil.

In the example below, the Process Manager shows a procedure containing 3 cutters.

This procedure can be divided into separate procedures, each of which uses only one cutter. From the menu bar, select Edit > Divide Procedure by Cutter Change. The resultant procedures are listed in the Process Manager with their respective cutters.

Notes:

  • The status symbol indicates that the procedures are the result of the divide by cutter change. The automatically generated comment also informs you of the number of procedures created.

  • The first of the 4 procedures is the original procedure in the Suspended (indicated by the flag) state. This is to preserve the original setting of the procedure so that it can be rerun in the future. The other three procedures have one cutter motion each. (It is advisable to rerun only the first (suspended) procedure).

  • When performing this operation on Transformation procedures, nested Transformation procedures are regarded as procedures that use one cutter (even though they may contain many cutters) and they are not divided.

Defined within the Optimizer

When using Holder Gouge Checking in the Optimizer, two options (Auto Search and Cutter Sequence) may cause the resultant procedure to use more than one cutter. If this occurs, you will see Multi Cutters listed for the cutter in the Process Manager.

This procedure can be divided into separate procedures, each of which uses only one cutter. From the menu bar, select Edit > Divide Procedure by Cutter Change. The resultant procedures will be listed in the Process Manager with their respective cutters.

In the example shown above, Cutters B10_001 , B10_002 and B10_003 are replacement cutters created by using the Auto Search option. You can view the properties of this new cutter by opening the Cutters & Holders dialog.
