Holder Gouge Checking
There are two holder gouge checking options in Cimatron:
-
5X Holder Gouge Check - specifically for 5-axis toolpaths.
-
Holder Gouge Check - for all other toolpaths.
These Optimizer options detect gouging of the stock by the cutter holder, according to current stock status. These checks are available only when cutter holder(s) are defined.
There are four Holder Options under Holder Gouge Check:
Mill & Alert: |
Provides warnings about cutter holder gouging, but makes no changes to the procedure motions. Parameters for an alternate cutter are suggested. |
Use Current Cutter: |
Machines using the current cutter, only in the areas where the cutter holder does not gouge the stock. The gouged areas are ignored and remained unmilled. |
Uses a replacement cutter to machine only the areas gouged by the original cutter holder. Cimatron will search the internal cutter list for a replacement cutter. |
|
This option opens a table in which a sequence of milling cutters can be defined. The cutters must be chosen from the internal cutter list. Feed and Spin may be defined for each cutter, and all cutters on the sequence list may be used as replacement cutters during the procedure, as needed. |
Notes:
-
When options Use Current Cutter, Auto Search, and Cutter Sequence are used, Rapid Motion Gouge Checking is turned on automatically. When Mill & Alert is used, Rapid Motion Gouge Checking is optional.
-
For Auto Search and Cutter Sequence, the resultant procedure may use more than one cutter. If this is the case, Multi Cutters will be listed as the cutter in the Process Manager. You can divide this procedure into procedures that use each cutter.
Alternate Cutter - Mill & Alert
The gouging warning messages and suggested alternate cutter parameters appear in the User Messages area of the NC Display:
THE CURRENT SET OF HOLDERS GOUGES THE STOCK.
HOLDER 1 SHOULD BE RAISED TO 48.79 ABOVE THE CUTTER TIP.
HOLDER 2 SHOULD BE RAISED TO 80.77 ABOVE THE CUTTER TIP.
EXISTING CUTTERS CANNOT AVOID GOUGING.
In the above message, HOLDER 1 refers to the clear length of the cutter. HOLDER 2 equals the clear length plus Height A, as shown below.
