Triad
Access: Open this group of functions from one of the following locations:
-
The triad is automatically displayed in numerous functions when performing moving, offsetting, and rotation operations.
-
This function can also be enabled (as well as disabled) manually.
The Triad allows you to freely move and rotate entities by dragging them with your mouse. The Triad is available for multiple Cimatron functions when dragging on screen may be helpful. One example is when adding or re-positioning parts in an Assembly. The Triad allows you to easily place and position a part by dragging it along a particular axis or plane.
Triad Components
The Triad is made up of multiple components that offer a full range of on-screen movement. Note that when a particular component of the Triad is selected, that component changes to a gold color as shown by the selected Z axis arrow below.

Dragging Directions
The Triad allows dragging in 3D, along the X, Y, and Z axes or on the XY, XZ and YZ planes (as well as free dragging). It also allows rotation dragging around each one of the axes (X axis, Y axis, or Z axis). The Triad Data Pane is displayed when dragging or rotating objects, providing real-time delta movement information.
Note: To optimize Triad's functionality (and Cimatron functionality in general), a three-button mouse is required.
The following illustrates the main dragging directions:

Free Movement (3D) Selecting the yellow ball at the center of the Triad allows movement in all directions (freehand).
|
Move Along Axis Selecting an X, Y, or Z axis arrow allows movement along that axis.
|
Rotation Along Axis Selecting an arc allows the angular rotation of an entity.
|
Move Along Plane Selecting the plane segment locks the perpendicular axis and allows only movement along the selected plane. |
Triad Data Pane
The center ball, plane segment, and axis arrows can be dragged in the positive or negative directions. All movements and rotations are shown in the Triad Data Pane.

Determining the Triad's Increment Values
Pick and hold any Triad component (axis arrow, plane segment, arc, or center ball).
Drag your mouse cursor to the left (while still holding down the left mouse button) until the increment icon appears. This action will allow you to move an entity in smaller increments (for example, in .01 increments) as reflected in the Triad Data Pane values.
If you wish to move the entity in greater increments (for example. 1.0 increments), pickpick and hold any Triad component and drag your mouse cursor to the right until the increment icon appears.
Note: Default increment values can be set for Cimatron in the Preference Editor > General > Increment. The increment values set here will also apply to the Triad's increment values.
Cimatron Modules That Use the Triad Feature
The Triad tool is available in the Offset and Rotation optional stage (of the Feature Guide) for the following functions:
Assembly - Assembly Add Operation
Assembly - Assembly Linear Array
Assembly - Assembly Radial Array
Part (Modeling) - Part / Edit / Move Linear (XYX option)
Part (Modeling) - Part / Edit / Copy Linear (XYX option)
Mold Design - Conformal Cooling (allowing you to drag selected points)
