Point By Pick
: Options and Results
Access: Open this function from the following location:
-
Select Wireframe > Point> Point By Pick from the menu bar.
Create point geometry by selecting points in the graphics area.
Create point(s) while outside the sketcher environment. All points created (both in the Sketcher and Modeling environments) can be picked in the Modeling environment.
Note: Points are created according to the Active Style Settings for curves. The line width, color, etc. of selected points can be changed as required.
Required Step 1
Pick a point or series of points. Any type of internal point can be picked, for example, End, Mid, Close, Close on surf, Key-in, Screen, Center, etc. See Picking Points for a description of the various types of points.
The type of internal points that can be picked depend on the settings in the Selection Filter. See the Point Selection Filter for a description of the point filters that need to be set in order to be able to pick certain types of points.
The following examples demonstrate the use of this function:
Example 1: Picking an internal mid point
In this example, the default point filter options (End, Middle, Center, etc.) have been set, enabling the selection of an internal mid point on a curve.

A "real" point is created at the location selected and added to the curve |

Example 2: Picking multiple center points
In this example, point filter options have been set that enable the selection of multiple center points.
Individual internal center points can be picked using the default point filter options (End, Middle, Center, etc.).

|
However, in some cases where multiple center points need to be picked (as in the model below), individually picking the internal center points is not practical.
Multiple internal center points can be picked by setting the Center and 3D cone edge point filter options as shown below:
Center + 3D cone edge point filter options |
These filter options enable the use of the "By Box" selection method to pick multiple entities. |
Multiple internal center points are picked (see the note below for the significance of the numericals). |
|
|
|
Note: When the Center and 3D cone edge point filter options have been set:
-
The "By Box" selection method can be used to pick and unpick multiple center points.
-
The center points of arcs are also selected. This includes the center points of round faces (marked 1 and 2 in the example above).
-
If there is more than one arc/circle with the same center point (up to a tolerance of 0.1 mm), only one center point is picked.
Click OKOK or ApplyApply in the Feature Guide to complete the function.
When completed, the Single Point feature will appear in the Feature Tree.
