Drafting Menus: Symbols Menu

Access: Invoke this group of functions from the following locations:

  • Select Symbols from the menu bar. Select the required function.

  • Right-click the graphics area to display the popup submenu and select the appropriate function from the Drafting Symbols flyout.

  • Select the required function as specified in the function description.

The Symbols menu functions enable you to create, edit and copy/paste various Drafting symbols.

The following functions are available in the Symbols menu:

The table below can be sorted; it has clickable headers that sort the table by the clicked column. The table is initially sorted by Function name.

Menu Section   Function

Alignment

Align Symbol Horizontally (X)

Align a symbol with another symbol horizontally (in the X axis).

Alignment

Align Symbol Vertically (Y)

Align a symbol with another symbol vertically (in the Y axis).

Symbols

Arrow

Create an arrow from a start point to a terminator location.

Automatic Symbols

Automatic Center

Automatically create a center line through circles, arcs, ellipses or projected splines of an assembly view.

Automatic Symbols

Automatic Coordinate Table

Automatically display a coordinate table listing all the coordinate labels in a selected view. These coordinate labels must first be created using the PMI Coordinate Label function in the Modeling environment.

Automatic Symbols

Automatic ID Number

Automatically display the ID numbers of an assembly view.

Automatic Symbols

Automatic Label of Holes (LOH)

Automatically label holes, creating labels on the view beside each hole.

Automatic Symbols

Automatic Ordinate

Automatically create ordinate dimensions through circles, arcs, points, splines, and center lines.

Tables

BOM

Create a Bill of Materials (BoM) for an assembly. A BoM is a list of components in the assembly.

Symbols

Center

Create a center line through circles, arcs or ellipses.

GD&T

Datum Target

Add a Datum Target symbol to the drawing.

Textual

Dimension

Create a dimension.

Textual

Hole Dimension

Add labels (which comply to engineering standards) that fully describe the attributes of one or more holes.

GD&T

Geometrical Datum

Create a datum reference to attach to a point on the screen or to one of the following:

  • An edge of a planar surface

  • A non-planar feature of size

  • An extension line off the datum feature surface

  • On a size dimension, placed offset to the dimension arrows

  • On a dimension line inline with the dimension arrows

  • On a leader arrow of a size dimension

  • As one half in an open-ended size dimension (inline with arrow)

  • Off a feature control frame that is applied to a surface

  • Off a feature control frame that is applied to a feature of size

GD&T

Geometrical Tolerance

Add a geometric tolerance to the drawing. Geometric tolerances are used to control form, profile, orientation, location and runout.

Textual

ID Number

Add an ID number symbol to the drawing.

Symbols

Marking

Apply markings to various circles, arcs or splines to differentiate between them, enabling you to identify them easily. These markings can be applied to ejector pins, cooling channels or other circular geometry.

GD&T

Multi Diameter

Add the multi diameter symbol to the drawing. When you use the Multi Diameter function and click a drafting hole in any direction (normal to view orientation, front, side, etc.) the system analyzes the hole segments and sets major diameters in the Multi Diameter symbol.

Textual

Ordinate Dimension

Allows the definition of the ordinate dimension direction via view entities (two points or a line), which can be aligned with view rotation or angled details. You can control and edit the dimension distance from the view or selected points.

GD&T

Surface Finish

Add a surface finish symbol to the drawing.

GD&T

Surface Roughness

Add a surface roughness symbol to the drawing.

Symbols

Symmetry Line

Add a symmetry line to a drawing. In addition, you can define the amount by which the symmetry line extends both sides beyond the defined area.

Tables

Table of Holes (TOH)

Create a Table of Holes (TOH).

Textual

Text

Create a wireframe (curves) out of text. Create and position wireframe text (arcs & lines only) from text defined in any language, font, or according to specific parameters. The result is a Text feature.

GD&T

Weld

Add a Weld symbol to the drawing.
